Working and Employment Conditions in the new EU Member States:
Interaction and social-economic impact

Brussels, Belgium : 14-15 April 2005

The ILO will organise the above meeting for twenty-one government representatives as well as for twenty-one participants each from employers’ and workers’ organisations from the following countries: Bulgaria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Estonia, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey and the United Kingdom.

Purpose of meeting:

a) To present and discuss results achieved by a group of national experts on working and employment conditions trends in new EU member states.  A comparative volume with the results of case studies and main empirical evidence will be distributed at the conference;

b) The three sides (employers, trade unions and government) will be actively involved in the debate and be asked to react on the main findings of this comparative study (volume that will be distributed at the conference);

c) The finial aim of the conference is to draw a certain number of policy recommendations in a number of key working and employment conditions areas.

The working language will be English.
