Kursuse töökeel on inglise keel. Osalejaid oodatakse 40 ringis. Osalemistasu on 60 latti. Eestist pärit osalejatel on võimalik taotleda osalemistasu, reisi- ja majutuskulude katteks stipendiumi.

Risk Management at the Workplace
Modern industry faces new challenges in safety management including new regulations, standards, and management systems. Consequently, these developments require proper legal and practical tools to handle the new situations. This course will discuss current safety issues at the workplaces in the modern industry.
Objectives The course aims to give the participants an overview and understanding of different phases of risk and safety analyses and risk and safety management. The aim of the course is also to strengthen the participants' own skills for daily practice.
After the course the participants should be able to · use knowledge of risk and safety management and communication more effectively in research, administration and at company level · understand the role of risk perception, management and communication in risk analysis · differentiate major problems in risk communication and management · understand risks as social and cultural phenomena
Target group Experts and authorities in health risk assessment and management, managers and experts in industry and labour market organisations and other non-governmental organisations, as well as others interested in risk management.

Lecturers The faculty will consist of invited lecturers from e.g. Finland, Germany, The Netherlands, and the Baltic countries.
Course structure The course will consist of lectures ex cathedra, group work and assignments, and a company visit. The participants are also encouraged to present their own cases, questions, and problems.
Language The language of the course is English.
Participants The number of participants will be limited to 40.
Location and accommodation The course will take place at the Institute of Occupational and Environmental Health, Stradin University of Riga, 16 Dzirciema Street. The organisers will reserve rooms for the participants who need accommodation at a moderate priced hotel/hostel in the central parts of Riga. More detailed information about the practical arrangements will be sent to the participants after the application deadline.
Deadline Application forms are available from the course secretary. They are to be completed and returned to her not later than 16 November. A letter of confirmation together with the detailed programme will be sent to the participants after the deadline for applications. Course fee The course fee is LVL 60,- and includes teaching and course material, lunches at the course venue, possible transportations between the course venue and the hotel, and also the social programme (get-together, opera evening, and banquet dinner). The course fee should be paid to the course secretary when registering to the course.
Organisers NIVA (The Nordic Institute for Advanced Training in Occupational Health) is one of the institutes of the Nordic Council of Ministers, and is located in Helsinki, Finland. This course will be arranged in cooperation with the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health, Helsinki.
